My Biography

I am Trott Visiting Assistant Professor in the City and Regional Planning program at Ohio State University. I received a BA in Politics and Philosophy from University College Dublin, a Masters of Philosophy from Trinity College Dublin, and, in 2007, a Ph.D. in Public Policy from UMBC. I have teaching and research interests in the political economy of cities and suburbs, environmental sustainability, and urban environmental policy and planning.

My most recent research focuses on suburban growth and decline. I recently published a book with Temple University Press, Once the American Dream: Inner-ring suburbs in the metropolitan United States.  I also recently co-authored the book, Cities and Suburbs: New metropolitan realities in the US. published by Routledge.

I currently live in Columbus Ohio with my partner, Kerry and wonderful dog, Scout. I enjoy films, photography, running and traveling. I was born in Dublin, Ireland. I have three wonderful nephews, two in New York City and one in London, whom I enjoy visiting as often as I can. I have lots of family in New Jersey too. I used to live in Baltimore City and still have great affection for this quirky rustbelt city.
